Unbundled Q and A
| Offering a new way for you to access the legal system without paying a huge retainer fee while still having your rights protected and keeping control over your matter. |
Q: What is unbundled legal service?
A: Legal advice and counseling with the client retaining primary control.
Unbundled service (or limited legal assistance) allows you to have an attorney to handle a specific matter or to "coach" you through a legal process. The attorney makes sure your legal rights are being protected and can also assist you with such things as drafting documents, researching the law, negotiations or mediation, gathering facts, representing you in court, explaining the court process, explaining your options, etc. You only pay for services as you need them.
Q: When is unbundled legal service appropriate?
A: In many instances!
Unbundled services work well with family law issues where it is more appropriate for you to speak for yourself while still having an attorney review your legal rights and advise you. In addition to marital, paternity, or post-judgment issues, it also works well for such issues as consumer law (creditor, contractor, etc. problems), and small claims issues where an attorney can briefly explain what your legal rights are, whether you have a counterclaim, what to expect in court, etc.
Q: When would unbundled services not be appropriate?
A: In the following situations:
• You do not have the time or interest to learn how to handle your matter;
• You are not mentally or emotionally able to handle your matter; or
• You are in a situation of abuse or intimidation where full legal representation is needed.
• If you are not in one of the above categories, unbundled legal services may work well for you.
Q: How do I make an appointment for an Unbundled Service?
A: Please call to set up an appointment with an attorney. Simply mention the type of case when calling so that you are assigned the appropriate attorney for your matter.
